• Navapashanam: The original idol at the Palani Hill Temple is famously believed to have been created by the great Siddhar (alchemist/sage) Bhogar using Navapashanam—a secret and potent blend of nine toxic minerals, which, when mixed in a specific alchemical process, is transformed into an eternal medicine.
• Curative Abhishekam: The main ritual usage involves the abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the idol with various liquids (like milk, honey, sandalwood paste, and Panchamirtham—a mixture of five fruits).
  • As these liquids flow over the Navapashanam idol, they are believed to absorb its potent medicinal and spiritual energy.
  • The Sandalwood paste (Rakkāla Chandanam) applied overnight and removed the next morning is particularly sought after by devotees for its reputed power to cure various diseases.
  • This prasadam (sacred offering) is the practical application or “usage” of the idol’s material for physical and spiritual healing.
